One on One

2017; video installation; three/five channels accordingly, duration and dimensions variable

One on One is a video installation on three or five translucid screens depending on the installation.

Two sisters are reenacting their once regular basketball training after ten years without practice. The set takes place in a sportshall they used to have basketball matches in high school. Still all the moves and poses are remembered and played out like before. Drained from the tensions of a real basketball match, what remains is a training routine. The same situation occurs over and over again with slight variations - a static state of repeated movements, carried out without fight or competition. Slow motion shots of the players focus on the body positions and poses, which they take during the play. These are movements, which no longer represent functions or achievements, but expose their own qualities of smoothness, sharpness, direction and speed.
